Digital BBQ

July 31, 2018

When people in the know hear “South By”, they immediately think of music and ribs at the trendy festival turned conference mega-event in Austin, Texas. What many business don’t know, SXSW is more than just a meeting point for music and film fans. In fact, it’s an annual gather place for creatives of all sorts. The SXSW Interactive Conference includes hardcore techie tracks covering topics from Blockchain and Cryptocurrency to Health & MedTech. The music venues and bbq tents are a perfect backdrop for US and international executives to forge new relationships and discover new business opportunities.

A new focus topic in 2018 was how digital innovation is transforming cities, government and politics and Project Lounge spoke with many participants interested in growing their engagement with civic organizations and community leaders. The decline of local media organizations presents both challenges and opportunities for companies in engaging with local audiences. If your company needs help navigating the streets of Austin at South By in 2019, give us a call. We’d be happy to help you (and we know a few good BBQ spots too!).

Version 2

Japan prides itself on being a country of tradition and modernity and Tokyo leads the way. With the elegance of France, technical prowess of Germany and a deep sense of its own historical significance, the world’s largest metropole is home to over 13 million people. Despite the hustle and bustle of the crowds, bright lights and towering skyscrapers, Tokyo is also a place of quiet creativity and reflection. No where else in the world do millions of passersby move so orderly and peacefully. It was the perfect place for Project Art Lounge to introduce the works of German artist, Silvia Sinha, whose conceptual interest in the transformation of urban landscapes is intertwined with an almost Japanese aesthetic. At the doorstep of the Shibuya train station – one of the busiest in the world – Andrew Luedders curated a photography exhibition at the Hikarie 8/ Creative Showcase. The exhibition Water Abstracts was held in late November 2015, following a premier exhibition of Sinha and two other international artists in Basel, Switzerland in 2013. Beginning in 2016, Project Art Lounge moves to the New York area as it continues to connect artists from around the world and empowering them both digitally and in the real world.

TV Reality

Following successes at SPORT1, Andrew Luedders accepted a new challenge to manage the network of digital entertainment properties of German television broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1. From sat1.de and ran.de to prosieben.de, kabeleins.de and sixx.de, each property presented unique challenges. Working closely with the programming departments of the tv network, Andrew oversaw multiple teams of digital media experts and interfaced with technology, marketing and sales experts within the company. The reality of TV is that making things look great on screen takes real ingenuity and invisible hard work behind the scenes. As with TV shows, some digital properties succeed, while others fail, regardless of the time and effort put into them.  Top ratings for The Voice of Germany and the relaunch of sixx.de prove that nothing motivates more than success. Harmonization of legacy platforms and business analytics, introduction of responsive design for optimized mobile performance and the development of innovative new applications for social TV were just a few of the initiatives happening “behind the scenes”.

Faced with an opportunity to pursue new challenges abroad, Andrew left Germany after 20 years in the digital media arena to begin a new career as an independent digital media consultant in Switzerland and Asia.
